The Real Dirt on Farming

The Real Dirt on Farming is a booklet designed to connect you with the food you eat, and introduce you to some of Canada’s farm families. It provides basic facts on topics such as the difference between growing crops conventionally and organically, pesticide use, animal housing and animal welfare, environmental sustainability, technology used in farming as well as many other subjects.

Food and Farm Care Ontario

Farm and Food Care is a non-profit coalition representing Ontario farmers and associate businesses. Their mandate is “to provide credible information on food and farming in Ontario.”
See their “Resources” tab to take you to virtual farm visits, infographics, fact sheets, and photo libraries.

Real Farm Lives

Real Farm Lives is a documentary series which offers a unique, unfiltered glimpse into the daily lives of Canadian farmers. We follow farm families from across the country, exploring the everyday challenges they face and the hard work, team spirit and amazing skill that goes into overcoming them.

  • This is the same site from the Welcome tab that features the Renwicks, but check it out for much more information from different types of farms around the country.

Ag in the Classroom Canada

Agriculture in the Classroom Canada (AITC-C) is the national voice of agriculture education. We believe in enhancing knowledge and appreciation of agriculture and food in Canada. As part of a cross-country effort, we work with our 9 provincial members to empower students and educators with accurate, balanced, and current curriculum-linked programs, resources, and initiatives focused on agriculture and the agri-food industry.

Nutrients for Life

Nutrients for Life Foundation Canada addresses issues including soil health, food security, and agricultural sustainability through its educational resources and programs, while working with educators across Canada to ensure its resources meet the needs of teachers and students.

  • Note: They also offer a grant program where schools across Canada can apply for $500 or $3,000 grants to set up or run a learning garden.

Andrew Cambell is the Fresh Air Farmer

He is “a farmer, with a passion for agriculture advocacy, social media and new technology.
On the farm, known as Bellson Farms, he and his family milk Holsteins and grow corn, soybeans, wheat and hay in Southern Ontario’s Middlesex County. With all kinds of information available about modern farms, and not all of it being true, Andrew is keen to make sure people get the full story on what farmers do daily, why they do it, and what they care about.”

  • He launched an online agriculture awareness campaign where he planned to visit 52 farms in 52 weeks in 2017.

Peterson Farm Brothers

Several of our volunteers introduce students to the Peterson Farm Brothers for some entertaining and informative videos about farming.

  • They’ve created various educational videos from their farm in Kansas, and also have created parody music videos that students might find fun.

The Soybean Man

Local CK farmer Dennis Jackson is known as “The Soybean Man“.

  • He has created over 65 videos that feature agriculture in Chatham-Kent.

AgScape: Ag Trekking Across Ontario

Agri-Trekking Across Ontario is an interactive, gamified resource that connects grade 7 and 8 students with agriculture, environmental initiatives and local food!
