Eligible apple growers are urged to return their ballots by May 2 in the Apple Producer Expression of Opinion Vote. Following a series of information meetings, and the distribution of ballot packages, Ontario apple producers are being asked whether they support a new marketing plan for their industry.
Since the fall of 2001, a group of Ontario’s apple producers has worked on the development of a new plan that would address the future needs of the industry. Better known as the Ontario Apple Growers’ Steering Committee, the group has consulted with fellow growers, processors and marketers. The Steering Committee proposal includes only commercial-sized operations under a new marketing plan.
Each apple grower who owns an orchard of 10 acres or more received a ballot package in the mail recently. All ballots submitted by eligible apple growers must be postmarked by May 2, 2003. If apple growers have any questions about the delivery of a ballot package or the form itself, the minister encourages them to contact the Ontario Farm Products Marketing Commission, toll free, at 1-888-466-2372, ext. 63395 or ext. 63397.
