The spring is fast approaching and with April almost over May promises to be a busy month. Please ensure your slow moving vehicle signs are clear and visible and your hazard lights are working.

Along with spring comes Lambton county’s farm markets and fresh produce! To find out where to get some local asparagus, rhubarb or spinach check out the Locally Lambton Food & Fun Map. IF you do not have a copy of the map don’t worry as the map be found on the Locally Lambton website at www.locallylambton.com.

RIDGETOWN, ON – The annual Taste of Lambton Kent Gala Dinner was once again a great success on many levels.  Held March 22nd, at the University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, the event was a first-class evening greatly enjoyed by all in attendance and succeeded in raising funds to support the advancement of agricultural-based education programs.

A Taste of Lambton-Kent is the key fundraising effort of Lambton Kent Agriculture in the Classroom, an organization dedicated to increasing awareness of the agri-food industry by providing educational programs and resources in this key agricultural market.  The funds raised through the group’s efforts go toward providing teachers with the resources needed to help students appreciate the variety, quality, and availability of our food. One of the many projects the group provides funding for is the Science Education Partnership which offers elementary students hands on learning in many areas of science, including agriculture.

The LFA has been working with the municipal government on the proposed woodlot bylaw. The LFA is part of a committee looking at possible changes to the proposed bylaw, and is working to address concerns raised by our members at last fall’s open houses.

The Lambton Federation of Agriculture is hosting a meeting of local commodity groups to discuss a couple of relevant topics for this area. The first topic is the implementation of a Lambton County newsletter. The LFA is looking for input from local commodity groups regarding articles, participation and support. The purpose of this newsletter would be to share county news, and help bring the agricultural community closer.
