The summer season is upon us. The spring was a difficult one for getting crops to emerge properly. It’s always nice to see the crops finally getting the ground covered to help conserve moisture.

Finally the announcement from the federal government on the new agricultural policy framework plus some immediate assistance was made. Although final details need to be developed it is positive news for the agriculture industry and the provincial government has signed the agreement. It would appear in the initial details that after 2 years certain sectors of agriculture will be still at a big disadvantage because of the U.S. farm bill unless major changes are developed within this AG policy framework. We will need to work with both governments to make this happen. I want to say thank you to the many farm leaders and MP’s’ and MPP’s for their efforts to date on this.

You will notice in another area of our newsletter that we are advertising for a new secretary. Lois-Wakefield after 46 years has decided to retire at the end of our business year on Sept. 30th. On behalf of the farmers in Lambton I know you would like to join with me on wishing her all the best for the future. She has ‘ touched the lives of many over the years.-‘ Thanks for all the hard work and good memories.

Also with the wheat harvest season ‘ upon us and then later on in the fall other crops I want to mention if you are loading transports on the sides of roads there are some implications for you under Ontario MTO regulations, See the newsletter article from Ron Jones of the Ontario Farm Safety Association. Last but not least the LFA is moving to a new era. We now have our own web page. We have up to date information on it with information being updated every hour. We will be having an official kickoff and we want to make our site the home page for Lambton Farmers. See our notice for the official web address plus watch for our official launch. Have a safe and fun summer.
