Lambton County farmers are facing many issues this year.

In a delegation to Lambton County Council Wednesday morning, the Lambton Federation of Agriculture noted concerns with the lack of high speed internet, natural gas availability, and issues with truck routes.

Board member Dave Ferguson says their presentation was to remind council that agriculture is the biggest economic driver in Ontario.

“The amount of production we do in Lambton County, and how much food we produce for the county, Ontario, and the world. Infrastructure for the rural economy is the biggest issue period, natural gas and internet,” he says.

“Moving forward, businesses are run now with internet, very critical.”

The LFA hopes consistency across the county will be considered as new official plans are dated.

Lambton County’s 525,000 acres of agricultural land makes up 5% of Ontario’s total.
