Some events you may remember:

  • June 3rd a tornado ravaged parts of the county from Sarnia eastward. A County relief fund was set up and a committee formed and their responsibility was to assess the loss and report to the Federation Secretary and to solicit funds by canvassing house to house.
  • Grants of $150.00 were made to the County Junior Farmers annually.
  • A $100.00 Canada Savings Bond was presented to Ed O’Dell for his work with the Federation and Mrs. O’Dell received a bouquet of roses.
  • The federation endorses the efforts of the Soy Bean Marketing Board to secure protection for farmers in marketing their produce in June, 1957 which was deemed necessary because of the possibility of processor bankruptcy.
  • With help from the Federation at their annual meeting in January, 1957, the Lambton Beef Producers’ Association was started at a in February, 1958. Ken Janes was the first chairman of the Association and Otis McGregor the first secretary.
  • Similarly, a wheat meeting was held on October 29, 1957 to make plans for a vote of producers on the Wheat Board Plan and their first meeting was held on February 20, 1958 with J.L. Anderson, Chairman and O. McGregor, Secretary.
  • Frank Miller was named President in 1958, Don Tidball 1st Vice-President, Wm. Blain 2nd Vice-President & Otis McGregor Secretary-Treasurer.
  • Otis McGregor was presented with a luggage set on his retirement at the annual banquet in Warwick Twp. hall in January 29, 1959. Fritz Stockklausner was hired as secretary-fieldman on May 15, 1959 with the office moving from Corunna to Petrolia.
