Hope your fall harvest has gone well.  The weather has been pretty favourable in our part of the county.

Lambton Federation of Agriculture set up our backboard display at every Lambton County Fair. Feedback on the content of the display has been very favourable.

I have taken part in some planning meetings this past quarter.  One was for “Breakfast with Jeff’ which included an evening reception to welcome Jeff Hutchenson of CTV, Canada AM to Sarnia-Lambton. The LFA worked with Lambton Pork Producers and Lambton Milk Committee as well as Birnam Orchards to provide breakfast sausage, milk products and apples for the breakfast. The other planning meeting was for the Tax Seminar meeting coming up on December 5, 2005; sponsored by BDO Dunwoody, OMAFRA and LFA.

Our Regional Meeting held on September 9, 2005 was very successful. We also held a pre-meeting that day with Lambton leaders invited as well as a few young Lambton Farmers.  We feel it is important to hear every6ne’s concerns and thoughts. Having Wayne Easter come to Lambton and talk with our local farmers, we were able to express area concerns in agriculture today.

A century ago, did you know a farm grew enough food to feed 12 people? Today a farm produces enough to feed 135 people. Agriculture today is not just food it is food and much more. This brings me to my next point: our LFA Annual Meeting is on November 18, 2005. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Gord Surgeoner. His topic is “Agriculture beyond Food”. Be sure to contact your local LFA director for tickets to this meeting. It should prove to be an interesting presentation.

In regards to coming out to your annual meeting, we can use a few more good people on our LFA Board. The Federation is your chance to help other farmers in Lambton as well as Ontario and Canada. We all need to give of ourselves to help others. I have been pleased to have had the honour to be your president for the last 2 years. I hope to see everyone at our annual meeting.

In closing best of luck to everyone in their fanning and remember “Safety” doesn’t hurt “live with it”

Yours in Farming,

~Dennis Bryson~
