Dear LFA Members:

I am writing you today for your continuing support to “Lambton Kent Ag in the Classroom“. It is an important group that teaches young people in both Kent and Lambton about the importance of agriculture, and what we do on the farm.

Personally, from my four year involvement with this group, we have failed to educate two generations of people about what we do on the farm. I feel that this group serves a very important role with the youth of today.

WHERE DOES YOUR DONATION GO?

The Science Education Partnership with the Lambton Kent District School Board and the St. Clair District Catholic School Board has access to Science Kits that are developed to meet the needs of the school curriculum. The purpose of these science kits is to help teachers with a ‘hands on – minds on‘ approach to show their students the value of many areas of science, including agriculture.

The “Lambton Kent Ag in the Classroom” group provides $5,ooo every year to refurbish materials for plants and soils kits, as well as help fund to build a new grade 2 air and water in the environment kits. These kits reach out to hundreds of our school aged children each year. These kits are very valuable to teachers.

In Lambton, we also put on Spring Days at Canatara Park in Sarnia for elementary aged children, primarily in Grades 4 & 5. It is amazing to see the lack of hands that go up when you ask the students how many of them have grandparents whom live on the farm. If we are not seeing many hands go up now, think of how many less we will see in the generations to come. Less and less people realize what we do on the farm. Spring Days allows us to expose students to life on the farm. We cover healthy foods, soil, levers and pulleys, and farm animals as our main focus.

Your generous donation also goes towards the Healthy Eating Club project. Each agricultural commodity has the opportunity to present to Grade 7 & 8 students at participating schools about what we do on the farm. They also learn to prepare healthy recipes from each respective commodity.

I am hoping that you will continue with your current level of support. With all the activists out there today, it is more important than ever that we continue to tell OUR story. We need to begin with the youth of today as they are our future.

Thank you very much for your time. Yours truly,

~Judy A. Krall~
