Several groups have come together to invite up to 500 people over for breakfast June 14 at the Sarnia farm of Kevin and Melissa Forbes.

Breakfast on the Farm is modeled after an event held last year in New Dundee, near Woodstock, and is being organized by the Lambton Federation of Agriculture, the Egg Farmers of Ontario and Sarnia-Lambton Business Development Corporation, with the help of several sponsors.

Along with several seatings for breakfast served in a tent, there will be tours of the Forbesvue Farms dairy operation, children’s activities, an equipment display, and the chance for visitors to speak with local farmers about the food they produce.

  • It’s planned to run, rain or shine, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The breakfast and the event are free, but tickets are required. A batch released May 13 went quickly and a second batch are set to be available May 20, starting at 8 a.m., online at Eventbrite.ca, under the title Breakfast on the Farm 2014.

Tracy Ranick, a community economic development officer with the business development corporation, said Breakfast on the Farm is a family-friendly event celebrating agriculture.

“We’ve been planning it since last fall and we’re really excited,” she said.

Breakfast will include eggs provided by the Egg Farmers of Ontario, pancakes “with Lambton County maple syrup,” and milk donated by dairy farmers, Ranick said.

It’s designed to become an annual event highlighting farming and agriculture, which “is such a huge and significant part of our local economy,” she said.
